Product Description
Grade 430 stainless steel sheet is a ferritic, magnetic chromium steel containing 16-18% chromium with a low carbon content, making it an economical and highly formable alternative to austenitic 304 grades. As a non-hardenable ferritic alloy, 430 delivers good corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments including indoor atmospheric exposure, fresh water, food contact, and mild chemical applications. Its magnetic properties enable compatibility with induction cooking surfaces and magnetic mounting systems, a key advantage over the non-magnetic 300 series for appliance panels and decorative trim. The alloy exhibits thermal expansion characteristics closer to carbon steel than austenitic grades, providing better dimensional stability in applications subject to temperature cycling. With a polished surface finish, 430 stainless steel sheet offers a bright, attractive appearance at a significantly lower raw material cost than nickel-containing austenitic alloys, making it the material of choice for cost-sensitive applications where the extreme corrosion resistance of 304 or 316 is not required.
Our 430 stainless steel sheet products are manufactured to ASTM A240 and EN 10088-2 standards using electric arc furnace melting followed by AOD (Argon Oxygen Decarburization) refining for precise chemistry control. The continuous casting and hot rolling process produces slab feedstock that is subsequently cold rolled on Sendzimir (Z-mill) reversing mills for superior gauge control and surface quality. Final annealing in a controlled atmosphere continuous furnace followed by skin passing ensures optimal grain structure, mechanical properties, and surface finish consistency. The 2B finish provides a smooth, reflective grey surface achieved through cold rolling, annealing, descaling, and a light skin pass on polished rolls, suitable for general industrial applications and further fabrication. The BA (Bright Annealed) finish undergoes annealing in a protective atmosphere furnace, producing a highly reflective mirror-like surface ideal for visible appliance panels, architectural trim, and decorative applications without the need for additional polishing. Both finishes are supplied with a protective PVC film to prevent surface damage during handling, storage, and fabrication processes including cutting, bending, and roll-forming operations.
Key Features- Cost-Effective Ferritic Grade: 16-18% chromium ferritic stainless steel with no nickel content offers significant material cost savings of 40-60% compared to 304 austenitic grades while providing adequate corrosion resistance for interior and mild environments.
- Magnetic Properties: Ferritic microstructure delivers strong magnetic attraction, enabling compatibility with induction cooktops, magnetic tooling fixtures, magnetic signage attachments, and electromagnetic shielding applications impossible with non-magnetic 300 series grades.
- Excellent Formability: Low carbon content and ferritic grain structure provide good deep drawing, bending, and roll-forming characteristics, making 430 ideal for pressing complex kitchen sink bowls, appliance door panels, and automotive trim profiles.
- Thermal Stability: Lower thermal expansion coefficient (10.4 μm/m/°C) compared to austenitic grades (16-17 μm/m/°C) ensures superior dimensional stability in applications subject to temperature fluctuations, reducing warping and buckling in panel applications.
- 2B and BA Surface Options: 2B mill finish for industrial and hidden applications, BA bright annealed finish with mirror-like reflectivity for visible consumer-facing panels, plus post-process finishing options including No.4 brushed, HL hairline, and 8K mirror polish.
- Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistant: Ferritic stainless steels are virtually immune to chloride stress corrosion cracking, a failure mode that affects austenitic grades in warm chloride-containing environments above 60°C.
- Good Weldability: Can be welded using GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), and resistance welding processes with appropriate low-carbon filler metals and post-weld annealing to restore corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone.

Grade 430 stainless steel sheet is the dominant material in the domestic appliance industry, where it forms the outer cabinet panels, door skins, and control panel fascias of millions of refrigerators, dishwashers, microwave ovens, range hoods, and washing machines produced annually worldwide. Its magnetic properties enable the use of magnetic door seals on refrigerators and magnetic attachment of decorative panels, while the bright BA finish delivers the premium stainless steel aesthetic that consumers associate with quality kitchen appliances. In the automotive sector, 430 stainless steel is specified for exterior trim moldings, window surrounds, exhaust system heat shields, catalytic converter shells, and fuel filler neck assemblies where moderate corrosion resistance combined with formability and cost-efficiency is required. Architectural interior applications include elevator cab wall panels, escalator side cladding, column covers, wall protection plates, and decorative feature panels in retail, hospitality, and commercial office environments. Additional applications encompass commercial kitchen countertops and splashbacks, food service equipment, vending machine exterior panels, and consumer electronics chassis where the combination of stainless steel brand perception and cost competitiveness drives specification.
Packaging & Quality AssuranceQuality control for 430 stainless steel sheet production begins with spectrometer analysis of each heat to verify chemical composition compliance with ASTM A240 limits. During cold rolling, continuous thickness gauging using x-ray fluorescence technology maintains gauge tolerance within ±0.03mm. Surface inspection utilizes automated stroboscopic vision systems to detect any rolling defects, scratches, or surface contamination at full production speed. Mechanical properties are verified through tensile testing per ASTM A370 on samples from each production lot, with hardness testing per ASTM E18 as a supplementary verification. Corrosion resistance is confirmed through salt spray testing per ASTM B117 for a minimum of 200 hours with no red rust formation. Intergranular corrosion susceptibility is evaluated per ASTM A763 Practice Z when specified. Finished sheets are interleaved with neutral pH paper and stacked on fumigated ISPM 15 wooden pallets with edge protectors. The pallet is wrapped in waterproof polyethylene with desiccant packs and secured with polyester strapping. Full documentation including mill test certificate per EN 10204 3.1, packing list, commercial invoice, and certificate of origin accompanies each shipment.
